Local visibility troubleshooting

Why your business may not be showing on Google Maps

“Not showing” can mean several different things. A profile may be missing entirely, visible only for its business name or absent from the small set of results shown for a service search. Start by identifying the exact symptom. The right next step depends on which of those situations you are facing.

01

First, record the search you are testing

Write down the exact search phrase, the date, the device and where the search was made. Save the public profile link if you have it. A screenshot without this context is hard to investigate and easy to misinterpret.

Try the business name plus city in Maps, then compare that with the service phrase customers might use. Google recommends the name-and-city search as a way to find a profile. Finding the named business does not establish how prominently it appears for broader service searches.

02

If you cannot find the profile by name

Sign in to the account associated with the business and locate its management view. Look for an unfinished verification request, a request for more information or a suspension notice. Google’s help documentation explains that a disabled or suspended profile will not be visible to other users until the issue is resolved.

If verification is needed, use the methods offered in the profile. If someone else already manages the existing profile, investigate ownership access before creating another listing. Keep a record of the existing URL, account involved and any messages received. This makes support conversations much more precise.

03

If Google shows a restriction or suspension

Read the notice and review Google’s current guidance for suspended profiles. Check the underlying business facts and eligibility before appealing. Prepare relevant evidence of the actual operation and follow the process available to that account.

Treat this as a profile-status problem. Rewriting website headings is not a substitute for resolving it. Avoid repeatedly creating replacement profiles or making speculative identity changes while the reason remains unclear. If you seek assistance, share the exact notice and an accurate timeline of recent edits through an appropriate private channel.

04

If the profile exists but service searches miss it

This is usually a visibility investigation rather than proof that the profile is broken. Google explains local ranking through relevance, distance and prominence. A search made next to the business can produce a different result from the same phrase searched across Orlando.

Review whether the category and service information accurately explain the work. Check that the website answers the corresponding customer need and that its contact information is usable. Compare the businesses shown for the same query to understand the type of result Google is selecting; do not copy their names, claims or categories without a factual basis.

05

Turn the diagnosis into a short action list

Separate confirmed problems from hypotheses. “The phone number reaches a former employee” is a confirmed problem. “Posting every day will restore visibility” is a hypothesis without evidence. Fix the confirmed issue, record the date and review the outcome over a suitable period.

  • Missing access: establish who owns and manages the existing profile.
  • Unfinished verification: complete the requested process.
  • Restriction: resolve the stated issue through the applicable support or appeal route.
  • Visible but less prominent: review relevance and local competition with consistent search-location records.
  • Clicks without inquiries: test the contact journey and service explanation.

Good questions. Clear answers.

Does being verified guarantee I will appear for every service search?

No. Verification and competitive visibility are different questions. A live profile can still be absent from a particular set of results.

Should I add more service areas to fix the problem?

Only add places the business actually serves. Do not treat a longer area list as evidence that distance no longer affects local results.
